Petoniki carries advertising, and advertising helps keep the site free to read. This page explains what advertising appears here, how it is marked, how it is kept apart from our editorial content, and how to tell us about an advertisement that worries you.

The advertising that appears here
Three kinds of commercial placement can appear on Petoniki.
Standard advertising from third-party ad networks. Placements booked directly with us by advertisers and brands, including sponsored placements. And affiliate links in our Product Guides, which are covered by the Affiliate Disclosure rather than this page.
How advertising is labelled
Advertising is labelled as advertising where it appears, in clearly marked positions on articles, directories and profile pages. Sponsored placements are labelled as sponsored.
Advertising and our editorial content
Advertising is kept apart from our editorial content. Placements sit in their own clearly marked positions rather than inside our articles, and every one of them carries a label saying what it is.
Advertising networks and data
Network advertising is currently intended to be served through Google AdSense. Google processes data for its part of the service under its own terms and privacy policy, including online identifiers and advertisement interactions where applicable. The data involved and your choices are described in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. We will update those policies before enabling another advertising network.
Advertising cookies and consent
Where consent is required, advertising cookies are set only after you have given it, and refusing them does not cost you content. The detail, including which cookies are involved and how to change your choice, is in the Cookie Policy.
Direct placements and sponsored content
Advertisers and brands can contact us at [email protected] to request a direct placement or sponsored content. There is no self-service advertising system, and every submission is reviewed before publication.
A direct advertisement consists only of an image or video hosted by Petoniki and an ordinary link to the advertiser’s destination. We do not allow the advertiser to place third-party scripts, tracking pixels or cookies on Petoniki through that placement. After a reader follows the link, the destination website is outside our control and its own terms, privacy policy and tracking practices apply.
We refuse advertising that is misleading, makes unsupported health or safety claims, imitates editorial content, or is inappropriate for a pet-owner audience. Review means only that the placement met our publication rules; it is not an endorsement or guarantee of the advertiser, product, service or destination website.
What advertising does not buy
Advertising does not buy editorial content. An advertiser does not receive approval rights over what we publish, and buying space does not buy a favourable verdict on a product, a brand or a claim.
Advertising does not decide what we cover, what we recommend or how we assess anything.
What we are responsible for
We are responsible for labelling placements, applying our review rules and removing an advertisement when it should not remain on Petoniki. Products, services, claims and data practices on an advertiser’s destination website remain the responsibility of that advertiser or supplier.
Reporting an advertisement
If an advertisement on the site looks misleading, inappropriate, or out of place, tell us at [email protected]. Tell us the page and, if you can, what the advertisement said; we look into reports and remove placements that should not be there.
